Prom Season
Prom season is almost upon us. I was shopping for a new outfit for work when I spotted the first frilly, glittering, brightly colored prom dresses. In the dressing room, the teenage girl in the next room over kept shouting to her friend, “What do you think of this one?!”
I swear I wasn’t trying to eavesdrop; they were so loud I couldn’t help but hear. Once they’d found their gowns the conversation quickly turned to shoes, accessories, and make-up. Apparently, there’s a new airbrush tanning system in place at the local salon that is supposed to be outstanding. I think I’ll check it out once prom season is over.
Lifting Spirits
It always amazes me how pampering myself just a tiny bit can instantly lift my spirits. Getting my nails done or even getting a haircut makes me feel refreshed. Getting a spray tan is a bit more of a splurge than the $20 I would normally spend on manicure or a blow-out, so I usually reserve tanning for special occasions or when I need a real pick-me-up.
Last week, I finally got over a nasty case of the flu that prevented me from attending my best friend’s birthday bash. To cheer myself up – and get back to a less sickly looking color- I booked a salon date for myself and my best friend. The salon used a state of the art airbrush tanning system that left both of our skins looking flawless. That definitely put a bounce back in my step!
Little Touches
I find that it’s the little touches that make the difference between a good salon and a great salon. For instance, at the salon I frequent, just outside the spray tanning booths they have cubbies and hooks for patrons to leave their clothing and bags on. Inside of the booth there is a small inset shelf filled with wipes, lotion, and anything else you may need following a misting conducted with immaculate airbrush tanning supplies.
My favorite little touch has to be the complimentary towels. They always feel as though they’re fresh from the dryer. They’re warm, fluffy, and lightly scented. On top of the fresh towels, the salon staff leave mints, much like what you would expect from turn down service and a swanky hotel.
Setting up an Airbrush Booth
When setting up an airbrush tanning booth the first thing you need to check is the filter system. Most tanning booths purchased from companies specializing in spray tanning supplies already come equipped with a filtration system. If not, then you can purchase one individually and secure it yourself. The filtration system is essential because it will suck away the mist caused by the spray tan gun.
The second thing you need to take care of is protecting the walls and floors with either plastic or vinyl. Finally, be sure to keep supplies on hand, like clean towels for the customers to stand on. Gloves for the spray tan technicians are also must-haves.
Maid of Honor to the Rescue
The weekend before my best friend got married I, as one of my duties as maid of honor, arranged her bachelorette party. She wanted a low key event, so I settled on a beach weekend in Miami. We had a great time sipping drinks on the beach and relaxing in the sun.
Even though I brought enough sunscreen for an army, not everyone took full advantage. As a result, several of the bridesmaids had ugly tan lines that would not go well with our strapless dresses. To keep the bride from freaking out, I made appointments for the bride and bridesmaids at a salon that specializes in airbrush tanning systems. The salon got us all squared away; we had fantastic glows and no tan visible tan lines in any of the wedding pictures.
Christmas in Florida
For Christmas, my aunt and uncle surprised me with roundtrip plane tickets to visit them in Florida. This is a real treat since it is freezing cold this time of year where I live. I’ll be staying with them for the first week of the New Year.
Before I jet down to Florida, I’ll need to make several preparations. First, I need to dig out my summer clothes since it is still in the mid to upper 70s in Florida. Second, I need to swing by the salon and make use of their airbrush tanning system. I do not want to look like Casper the friendly ghost while ringing in the New Year!
Extending the Life of Your Tan
Spray on tans are a fantastic alternative to baking on the beach, but a spray tan tends not to last as long as a natural tan. There are a few simple steps you can take to extend the life of your artificial tan. For starters, exfoliate your skin prior to getting a tan. You want the spray tan to soak into healthy skin, not come off with dead, flaking skin.
Second, do not put on any moisturizer prior to getting a spray tan. Any lotion left on the body will cause the spray tan to come out blotchy with some areas of skin soaking in more of color than other areas. Do not exfoliate in the days after your tan. Finally, ask your technician about lotions that will moisturize your skin and extend the life of the tan.
Your New Business – Part 6
Finding a mentor is not something a lot of us spend any time thinking about. And for most of us it may be the furthest thing from our minds when we’re thinking of starting our own business. In fact, I would imagine most people don’t even know how to go about doing this, or even how to get started at all. Social networking sites are an excellent resource for the tech-savvy while school groups and even local clubs can turn out to be a wellspring of wisdom and knowledge.
You don’t want to wade into the waters of business ownership without everything you need for success. That means you need to educate yourself with more than just numbers and data. You need to know how the business works. You’ll need to know what’s killed the unsuccessful and what’s propelled the successful into a wonderland of profitability. Even if the only thing you’re going to sell is spray tan tents, don’t leave yourself out in the cold and find yourself your very own spray-tan Jedi for an apprenticeship that will pay off.
Cleaning Your Spray Tanning Supplies
After hours of applying tans, the last thing most people want to do is cleanup their spray tanning supplies. And while this can be a tedious task, it’s necessary in order to keep your gun running smoothly. Begin by pouring any excess tanning solution back into the bottle; much like paint, it keeps better in large quantities. Next, put some warm water in the system and spray it for a few seconds to remove any remaining solution.
Once you have sprayed out all the remnants, empty the water and spray the gun until the entire unit is dry. There are special cleaning products you can use, but they are rarely necessary. Unless you notice a problem with solution sticking in your gun, don’t spend the extra money.
Airbrush Tanning for Flawless Results
In the modeling industry, the term “airbrushed” has become synonymous with a flawless appearance. Models will have every blemish and bump airbrushed from their body prior to a shoot to ensure they look godlike in their photos. Now you can utilize the same technology as these models to achieve a perfect tan for yourself.
Airbrush tanning is the latest trend in the fashion industry, and with good reason. A skilled airbrush tanning artist will be able to give you gorgeous, beautiful skin that you’ve only dreamed of. Because the solution is applied by hand, the artist is able to ensure even coloring and shade your body’s contours to make your look your best.
