Making the Most of Cyber Monday
I’ve never understood the allure of Black Friday shopping. For one, I find that I’m too sleepy from overindulging on turkey the night before to wake up in time for door buster sales. Second, I loathe crowds – particularly the manic hordes of people who will do almost anything to scoop up a half-off plasma screen television.
Cyber Monday is much more my speed. From the comfort of my home computer, I can score great deals and have the gifts sent anywhere I want. This year I purchased lots of discount name brand beauty items, like sunless tan solution, for my daughters and nieces.
Tanning Solution Prep and Application
Preparation is a key element for achieving a quality sunless tan. Before applying tanner exfoliate all over with a scrub that is free from essential oils. Dead skin cells and oily residue can effect how the skin absorbs color, so it’s best to remove both. Protect finger nails from staining with a light layer of lotion that will form a barrier to keep color out.
As tempting as it may be to wear gloves when applying tanning solution, using your bare hands is really the way to go. Slowly and gently wipe the solution one way and then the other, using broad strokes. Dilute the tanner a bit when applying to knees and elbows because they naturally look darker.
Correcting a Sunless Tan
As we’ve mentioned before, for a perfect sun kissed glow without UV damage, sunless tanning is the way to go. Sunless tanning lotions can be applied at home if you want to save some money by not going to a salon. Even the best sunless tanning solution can leave behind some imperfections.
Any blemishes left by sunless tanning solution can be remedied fairly easily. Remove excess solution from hands and nails with a warm, wet towel. For a tan that is a bit too vibrant, add skim milk to a bath. The natural acids within the milk will mellow the color.
Sunless Tanning Products
When you are looking for the safest way to tan, sunless tanning products are the best alternative to laying in the sun for hours. People that are fare skinned know how easy it is to burn. Sunburns are extremely painful and uncomfortable. There are very few ways to alleviate the pain and discomfort of a sunburn, so preventing a sunburn while still getting the affect of a sun tan is key.
Sunless tanning products are a wise choice for those of us who still desire the affect of a sun tan without possibly getting burned in the process. There are a lot of different products that are available so it is important to try a few out to pick the best fit for you. The better quality self sunless tanning products have active ingredients that stimulates pigment in the skin other then dying your skin.
Getting Ready for the Ball
Every year for Thanksgiving, I fly across the country to spend the holiday with my parents. I try to take a few extra days off of work in order to visit high school and college friends who still live in the area. This year, my visit coincides with a hosted by a local organization.
My best friend from high school scored an extra ticket and offered to take me along as her date since her boyfriend is out of town. I’ll take any excuse to get dressed up and helping a charity is a pretty good reason. A couple of days before my flight I’ll be sure to get a sunless spray tan so that I won’t look ghostly white in my gown.

Focus on Health
I live in a small town and have made it my business to befriend many of the owners of the establishments I frequent. One of my favorite spots is a salon that opened up about a year ago. Their specialty is spray tans.
During my most recent session, the owner chatted with me about how why she chose to start a tanning business and what her goals are for the future. Since I have a background in marketing, she asked for my advice on how to net more customers. I suggested that she focus on the health factor of spray on tans versus traditional tanning. She really went for the idea and has plans to roll out a health-conscious marketing campaign.
Becoming a Certified Airbrush Tech
Airbrush tanning certification is not a requirement in order to become a technician, but it is advisable. Both the American Tanning Institute and the National Tanning Training Institute offer in-person and online certification programs. Study materials cover such topics as how DHA works, operator safety, and FDA guidelines.
Through a certification program, future technicians will learn their way around spray tanning supplies. This will help them get hired or start their own salon. Getting certified really is for the best, especially since many state boards of cosmetology are considering making certification a requirement.
Is DHA Safe?
Most people who have gotten a faux tan often ask the question: Is DHA safe? The answer is: yes. DHA (dihydroxyacetone) was recognized as a skin coloring agent during the 1920s. Further research in the 1950s proved that DHA only reacts with the amino acids in the top “dead” layer of skin.
By the 1960s, Coppertone had produced its first consumer sunless tanning lotion. In the 1970s, the FDA added DHA to their list of permanently approved cosmetic ingredients. Today, millions of gallons of spray tanning solution containing DHA are used each year with no detrimental effects.
Baring It All?
Newcomers to spray tanning often ask me this question: Do I have to bare it all? Rest at ease; the answer is no.
Some ladies and gentlemen may feel free enough to go nude during a spray tan session, but it is absolutely not required. You can wear a bathing suit or underwear during the tanning session. If you do choose to wear a bathing suit while in spray tan tents, then you’ll likely be asked to shift straps and waistbands periodically so the technician can make sure you don’t have visible tan lines.
