Pre-Dance Tanning
As the school year winds to an end, high school seniors around the country are finalizing their preparations for prom. Traditionally, this is one of my busiest times of year, and in order to capitalize on this annual boon, I have developed some marketing tactics specifically for the spring. I always start a couple months in advance, placing advertisements in school newspapers and near establishments that rent out tuxedos and evening gowns.
Prom virtually always puts a strain on pocketbooks, so I make sure to offer discounts and incentives during this time. One of my most successful promotions has been our group tanning sessions. While a private tanning session can be expensive for a teen, we offer packages where multiple artists will come to your house, and you and your friends can get your tans at the same time. Having several tanning tents set up is always a fun experience for the clients and it gives us the ability to offer steep discounts.
Finding the Right Airbrush Tanning Solution
For the last two years I have been getting spray tans to maintain a dark, healthy looking skin tone. One of my friends recently asked me my secret, so I invited her to come with me last weekend. Since my tan always looks amazing, she naturally wanted the exact same products and artist I use.
While scheduling the same artist wasn’t a problem, I tried to explain to her that we shouldn’t use the same airbrush tanning solution; I have naturally dark skin while she is a native of Nova Scotia. Despite the protestations of the tanning artist and me, she insisted on using the same solution. As you can imagine, she came out of the tanning tent looking like an Oompa Loompa. I’m sure that she will heed our advice next time and go for a lighter solution.
Skip the Sun
Now that spring is here and the sun is shining—even here in the Pacific Northwest—getting a spray on tan may seem superfluous. It doesn’t seem logical to pay for bronzed skin when you can spend a weekend at the beach and get comparable results. Tanning in the sun, however, does have some significant drawbacks.
Of course, we all know the risks associated with UV exposure, and tanning via the sun exposes us to a significant amount of this radiation. Unlike a spray tan, which gives you gorgeous color every time, when you tan in the sun you run the risk of being burned. Not only does red, peeling skin look unattractive but it is also detrimental to your health.
Why Spray Tan?
Everyone wants to have rich, dark, healthy looking skin, but tanning beds and time in the sun inundate us with UV rays. Not only that, but consistent use of tanning beds often leaves to an orange, artificial appearance—case and point, Jersey Shore. And when you’re in the sun, you always run the risk of burning, which is not only unattractive but detrimental to your health as well.
A spray tan, on the other hand, solves all of these dilemmas. With a wide selection of tanning solutions, there is a product to complement any shade of skin, ensuring you always achieve a natural looking tan. Spray tanning also has no UV emissions and, with proper maintenance, can last for over a week
