Spray Tan Fiasco
The first time I went to get a spray tan, I had the same preconceived notions about tanning that many people have: Darker is better. With my combination of Scandinavian and Irish heritage, my skin tone has always left something to be desired, so I naturally pine to be on the opposite end of the spectrum. When the spray tan artist showed up at my house, they suggested a sunless tanning solution with a DHA percentage of seven—I opted for one with a 10.5% DHA.
As some of you may have guessed, I was left looking like the Syracuse mascot for almost two weeks. Of course, I couldn’t blame the artist; the tan was applied well and they did warn me. Since then, I’ve learned to kowtow to the spray tan professionals, and I look much better because of it.
Before You Get a Spray Tan
Whether you are going to a job interview or meeting friends you have known for years, we all want to look our best all of the time. Clothing, jewelry, makeup and accessories can all be changed or augmented with ease, but a spray tan will last for several days. As such, it is important to do some research before you receive a spray tanner any other sort of tanning for that matter to ensure that you end up looking your best.
If you are trying to decide on which spray tan company to use, look for reviews online or ask friends. In the spray tan industry, the reputation of a good artist can get around quickly, and vice-versa. You will also want to research sunless tanning products to find the solution that is right for your skin tone and lotions that can increase the longevity of your tan.
