By now, you are probably well aware of the importance of the solution you use when getting a spray on tan. Just as important, however, are the products that you apply before and after your session. There is no point in spending good money on a spray tan if you don’t take the proper measures to preserve it.

Before heading to your tanning session, be sure exfoliate your skin properly. This will slough off any dead cells and ensure that the tan is applied well. It is also advisable to use moisturizers before and after tan application to maintain your skin’s natural oils and prolong the life of your color.

Once your clients step out of your tanning tents, the job is far from done. Now that they have a gorgeous bronze color, the next priority is ensuring that they stay that way. Once the solution has been applied, allow 5-10 minutes to dry before putting on any clothing. If the solution is still wet, it may stick to clothes and rub off. It is also important to avoid water—including showers—for at least 8 hours after the tan has been applied.

Be sure to having tanning moisturizers and maintainers on hand for your clients to purchase. These products ensure the tan lasts for the longest amount of time possible and fades in a uniform manner. For best results, it is recommended that the spray tan treatment be applied about once a week.

Last time we began reviewing the proper technique for applying a spray tan and finished by laying out the process for applying the tan to a person’s front. Once this is done, move to the client’s side and use the same back-and-forth motion to go up the inside and under the arm, as well as down the leg. Repeat this process for each side of the body.

When applying the spray tan to the back, work down from the neck in the same pattern that was utilized on the front of the body. After this, go back to the front and work on the area around the next and shoulders, and finish by carefully applying the solution to the face; this process is fairly simple but will take some practice to master. Utilizing spray tan tents will aid the application process and prevent the solution from getting everywhere. Next time we’ll go over some of the post-tan measures, as well as helpful tips for maintaining the color.

In our last post, we covered some of the basic measures of the pre-application process. There are a few other precautions that you should make sure the customer is aware of; do not shave within 24 hours of the appointment; do not wear makeup; and do get wet for at least 8 hours after the appointment. Now that all of the prep work is out of the way, it is time to set up the airbrush tanning equipment and actually apply the tan.

When applying the solution, make sure that the gun is 8-10 inches from the body, and work in smooth, fluent motions from left to right. Start at the chest and slowly work your way down the body and back up again. This will give you a nice even coat on the front. Next time we will continue going over the application process.

In this blog, we have covered some of the basics of opening a sunless tanning business, but you are not likely to stay around long if you don’t provide quality services. The next few days we will be covering some of the basics of spray tan application. We will start today by reviewing some of the basics preparations for applying the tan.

While this is somewhat out of your control, encourage your customers to exfoliate before their appointment. This ensures that dead skin cells are removed and that the tan will last for the longest possible amount of time. Also, be sure to remind them not to use any sort of lotion or moisturizer prior to the appointment, as this will prevent the tan from setting properly.

Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue

For decades now, subscribers of Sports Illustrated have had an extra issue sent to them in February: the now iconic Swimsuit Issue. It seems ironic that in a culture where scantily clad women be readily found in other magazines, TV and the internet that that swimsuit issue still carries any mystique at all. As a loyal subscriber to Sports Illustrated, I am one of those people who received the extra issue earlier this month.

One of the things that caught my attention as I was flipping through the magazine was how the woman literally looked like they were works of art; there were no blemishes or flaws to be found. While there is no doubt that the women are beautiful, they definitely get some help from airbrush tanning systems. This is evidence by their impeccably even coloring and perfect shade.

With our busy workaday lives, few of us have the time or patience to go to a traditional tanning salon and wait in line. It was this revelation that led me to start my own mobile spray tanning business. I’ve only been providing services for about three months now, but I have already built a loyal customer base.

In my limited experience in the industry, I’ve found that people are looking for viable alternatives to traditional tanning beds—and spray tanning is just that. The results tend to be better than tanning beds and it doesn’t come with the same health concerns. One of the best parts is that I haven’t had to do hardly any advertising; much of my business has been generated from customer referrals and word of mouth, as there are few other spray tan artisans in my area..

The entrepreneurial spirit is a long cherished bedrock of the American fabric. Everyday people set out to be there own boss and create an empire for themselves. There are literally millions of industries to go into, but it is important to find a market that has a demand that is not being met. Like many Americans, I experienced the urge to endeavor on my own personal business venture.

Living in the Pacific Northwest, I’ve noticed that for about 10 months out of the year most of the people have a white and pasty complexion; this trend has inspired me to look into how to start a tanning salon business. After doing some searching, I was able to find a website that had all of the essential supplies that I need. Not only did they have applicators and tanning solution, but they even had spray tanning tents so that I could make my business mobile.

By now most of us are well-aware of the inherent danger of tanning beds, but that is not the only drawback to that sunless tanning solution. Tanning parlors require that you drive to a storefront, and you often have to wait in line until there is an open booth. On top of that, there is the risk of burning and the fact that you have to lay in equipment that someone else has just been in.

Virtually all of these issues are addressed through airbrush tanning. Not only does the airbrush allow for an even application, but there is also absolutely no risk of burning. Due to the nature of the equipment, many airbrush tanning businesses offer mobile sunless tanning; this means that you don’t have to worry about driving to a storefront or waiting in long lines.
