Creative Spray Tan Solution

Thursday, January 26, 2012

I read a hilarious blog post yesterday about an amateur spray tanner. I’ll bet it was probably a hoax, but the story brought tears to my eyes. The basic gist of it was a friend wrote to another friend detailing his “you know you’re a redneck when…” experience.

Apparently, the man’s wife wanted a spray tan but wasn’t willing to pay for a salon. Instead, she had her husband give her a fake tan using an industrial paint sprayer loaded up with homemade spray tan solution. He claimed to have dried her off with a leaf blower! Like I said, I can’t imagine this story being true, but if it were I don’t think that tan was exactly what the woman had in mind.

Vanity of Male Swimmers

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

In high school I was a member of the varsity swim team. I was not a stellar athlete, but I still earned a spot on the team (most likely because they needed to flesh out the women’s team). The men’s team, however, was stacked with young men who also swam in an extremely competitive local club.

These are the male swimmers who shave all of their body hair before competition to cut down on friction in the water. Some of these guys were also incredibly vain; though, I can’t say that I blame them entirely- those jammers leave nothing to the imagination. I suspect that some of them went so far as to have airbrush tanning solution applied before big meets. Either that or they didn’t mind braving the winter weather to soak up some rays.

Applying Sunless Tanning Lotion to the Face

Thursday, December 1, 2011
posted by TanNBeautiful

Applying sunless tanning lotion to the face and neck can be worrisome. Mistakes on the rest of the body can be easily hidden with clothing, but if you mess up the application on your face there’s no way to hide it. Here are some tips on proper sunless tanning lotion face application:

Before applying the sunless tanning lotion, make sure to fully exfoliate your facial skin. Next, place a dime size amount of sunless tanning lotion on to your hand. Using your finger, dab a bit of lotion around your face to ensure the product is evenly distributed. Finally, use your fingertips to gently blend and massage the lotion into your skin. Just as you would with applying make-up, pay special attention to blending along the jaw line and hairline.

Baring It All?

Friday, November 4, 2011
posted by TanNBeautiful

Newcomers to spray tanning often ask me this question: Do I have to bare it all? Rest at ease; the answer is no.

Some ladies and gentlemen may feel free enough to go nude during a spray tan session, but it is absolutely not required. You can wear a bathing suit or underwear during the tanning session. If you do choose to wear a bathing suit while in spray tan tents, then you’ll likely be asked to shift straps and waistbands periodically so the technician can make sure you don’t have visible tan lines.

Is Airbrush Better than Misting?

Wednesday, November 2, 2011
posted by TanNBeautiful

I like to indulge in a spray tan once or twice a month. Each time I go to the salon I opt to have an airbrush tan rather than use the misting booth. Simply put, a machine cannot give you the same quality tan as a trained technician.

A booth is not customized to your height, weight, and other body concerns. You would have to do some amazing body contours to get every inch of your body covered evenly. When you get an airbrush tan, you simply stand in a spray tan tent and an expert technician gives you a tan customized to your body type.

Purchasing Airbrush Tanning Equipment

Thursday, September 15, 2011
posted by TanNBeautiful

Do you find yourself spending hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars a year on spray tans and spray tan maintenance? If so, then it may be worthwhile to purchase your own airbrush tanning equipment to use at home. By administering the tan yourself you save yourself the cost of going to the salon every few weeks.

Do a little bit of research to see what type of airbrush tanning equipment you feel comfortable operating by yourself. Typically people feel most comfortable with a spray tan compressor. Once you have a system you like, you will need to purchase tanning solution and cleaning solution (to keep your equipment hygienic).

Airbrush Tanning Techniques

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

Two popular methods of airbrush tanning are booth airbrush tanning and spray hose airbrush tanning. The former is one of the easiest ways to get a healthy sun kissed glow. All you have to do is stand in the booth and let the nozzles spray you from head to toe. This method is ideal for customers who are uncomfortable standing only in their underwear in front of another person.

Spray hose airbrush tanning gives customers a more personalized experience. It is best to have a professional utilize this technique; doing it yourself can lead to blotches and runs. A professional will also have an eye for evening out skin tone. Either technique is a great way to get a healthy tan.

How Sunless Tan Solution Works

Thursday, June 30, 2011
posted by TanNBeautiful

Have you ever wondered what makes sunless tan solution so effective? The answer lies in the active ingredient called dihydroxyacetone (DHA). Often, DHA is derived from sugar cane and beets.

DHA binds with proteins on the top layer of the skin and goes through a chemical reaction akin to browning bread, which is where the tan comes from. DHA itself has a more yellow or orange hue than a normal tan, so over the years additives have been incorporated into sunless tan solution to give a more natural glow. A sunless tan fades in approximately two weeks precisely because DHA only binds with the top layer of skin which is constantly renewing itself, unlike deeper layers of skin.

Extending the Life of Your Tan

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Spray on tans are a fantastic alternative to baking on the beach, but a spray tan tends not to last as long as a natural tan. There are a few simple steps you can take to extend the life of your artificial tan. For starters, exfoliate your skin prior to getting a tan. You want the spray tan to soak into healthy skin, not come off with dead, flaking skin.

Second, do not put on any moisturizer prior to getting a spray tan. Any lotion left on the body will cause the spray tan to come out blotchy with some areas of skin soaking in more of color than other areas. Do not exfoliate in the days after your tan. Finally, ask your technician about lotions that will moisturize your skin and extend the life of the tan.
