What to Look For in a Tanning Tent

Wednesday, September 1, 2010
posted by TanNBeautiful

Every spray tan professional recognizes the importance of the solution and applicator, but your tanning tent is a critical part of the equation as well, particularly if you have a mobile tanning business. Here are a few of the key features to look for when making your purchase:

~Portability: Hauling around a bulky piece of equipment simply isn’t an option when you have dozens of clients to see. It’s imperative that your tanning tent be compact and lightweight while still being effective. Look for a tent that can be setup and stowed away in just a couple of seconds. The pop-up models are usually the way to go.

~Professional Appearance: It’s crucial to maintain a professional appearance when you are providing your service, so don’t pick a tent that looks like a plastic tarp and always clean it up immediately after application.

~Windows: Lighting can be a problem inside a tanning tent; be sure to get one with windows on the top.

~Easy Cleanup: The tent should preferably be made of vinyl, which will make cleaning up splattered solution quick and easy.

Mayo Clinic Endorses Sunless Tanning as a Safe Method

Monday, August 30, 2010
posted by TanNBeautiful

If you’re new to the world of sunless tanning, you may think it’s just another cancer inducing process to darken the tone of your skin. But the truth of the matter is that spray tanning solution and other sunless tanning products are a safe and viable alternative to traditional tanning and tanning beds. This may seem too good to be true, but the evidence is overwhelming, and a recent article from the Mayo Clinic reinforces what sunless tanning advocates have been preaching for years.

Sunless tanning products contain DHA, which reacts with the outer layer of your skin to darken it without exposure to detrimental UV radiation. This color gradually fades in about a week as the outermost layer of your skin sloughs off naturally. Most sunless tanning products don’t contain any SPF or other type of sun protection, so even if your skin is darker, you’ll still want to apply sunscreen liberally if you’re going to be catching any rays.

Maintaining Your Professional Appearance

Anyone who has worked in the spray tan industry knows that the solution has a tendency to create little splatters during application. This isn’t a big deal as DHA tanning solutions are water-based, but it will make you look unprofessional. Nobody wants to get a spray tan from someone who has solution all over their clothes and equipment.

The best way to prevent this is by setting up a spray tan tent every time you apply a tan. Tents effectively capture any rogue spray and help keep your and your equipment looking good. These tents are easy to clean, making it easy to maintain your professional appearance. In the unfortunate event of a spill, a tent also helps contain the mess.

Caring for Your Spray Tanning Supplies

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Once you’re done applying your spray tans for the day, it’s important to clean your spray tanning supplies to keep them operating to their full capabilities. Begin by pouring any leftover tanning solution back into the container, which will help keep it preserved. Then put some warm water through the system, which will prevent any excess solution from drying in the applicator.

After all of the solution is removed, empty the water and spray the unit again to get rid of any excess liquid. There are cleaners available, but since DHA is water-based, they really aren’t necessary. If you notice solution drying in your equipment it’s probably wise to purchase the cleaner; otherwise, simply clean the unit after each use.

Long-Lasting Sunless Spray Tan

No matter what your reason for getting a sunless spray tan, you inevitably want to keep your color as long as possible. In order for this to happen, it’s going to take a concerted effort on your part both prior to and following your spray tan appointment. Before you get your tan, it’s crucial to exfoliate your skin to remove dead cells and create a clean palette for the solution.

Always wear dark, loose fitting clothing immediately following your tan to prevent the solution for peeling off and sticking to your garments. Once the tan has been applied avoid the water for at least a day and apply lotion liberally. Throughout the time you have your tan, it’s important to moisturize, which will help your skin absorb the solution.

More and more people are turning to the internet for all of their shopping needs. You can find virtually anything online these days, and as people take advantage of this convenience, brick-and-mortar locations are becoming increasingly obsolete. There are certain things, however, that the internet will never be able to replace.

Take sunless tanning for instance. There’s no way to achieve a tan through a computer, but people still want that convenience; this is what makes a mobile tanning booth so valuable. You can set up a website for your company where clients can go to schedule appointments. Then you can bring the tan right to their homes, capitalizing on the internet trend and eliminating the need for a traditional storefront.

Alternative Tanning Solutions

Ever since the tanning law went into effect a few weeks ago, I’ve been searching for a new way to get glowing, godlike skin. Since I go tanning three times a week, I just can’t afford the extra 10%. I’ve been trying to soak in some sun to augment my tanning regimen but I’m just not getting the results I want.

Last weekend some girlfriends and I were walking around the mall when we noticed a mobile spray tanning salon. I’ve always been skeptical of spray tans after a bad experience I had with a tan in a can before my junior prom, but I was running out of options. When I walked out of the tanning tent, I couldn’t believe how good I looked. The results were truly amazing and the tan has already lasted five days without showing any signs of fading.
